Simonetta Stefanelli

Her breakout role came in the same year, when she played Apollonia Vitelli-Corleone in The Godfather. She was 16 when production began and 17 when the film came out, and she appeared topless. The following year, she posed nude in the Italian edition of Playboy. She later refused a career in Hollywood, to avoid being typecast and required to do nudity. She explained in a 1997 interview: "They wanted nothing more than to expose my body... I refused so much work." After The Godfather, she continued working in Italy, including the Spanish film El mejor alcalde, el rey, and the miniseries Moses the Lawgiver. She also starred opposite her husband Michele Placido in the erotic drama Peccati in famiglia.

Stefanelli took a break from acting in the mid-1970s after her marriage and the birth of her daughter, Violante Placido, in 1976. She returned in the early 1980s for Francesco Rosi's Tre fratelli, and after appearing in Michele Placido's Le amiche del cuore, she ended her acting career in 1992, just one year before her daughter began acting. After a hoax about her death surfaced online in 2007, she said she might participate in a film project if it came along. "But after my death, I don't know," she joked. Since quitting acting, she owned and operated a fashion store in Rome called Simo Bloom, where she designed purses and shoes.
