Poppy Harlow

Born Katharine Julia Harlow on May 2, 1982, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she grew up in that city. Her father, an attorney, passed away when she was fifteen, and the nickname "Poppy" stuck from childhood. She graduated from The Blake School in 2001, then earned a bachelor's degree in political science and Middle Eastern studies from Columbia University, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. In 2022, she completed a Master of Studies in Law at Yale Law School.

Harlow began her career as an intern at CBS, later working for CBS MarketWatch and CBS Newspath. She moved to NY1 News as an anchor and reporter, covering Staten Island and New Jersey. In 2007, she joined Forbes.com Video Network, where her beat expanded to fashion and entertainment. At CNN from 2008, she anchored CNNMoney.com and reported for CNN, CNN International, and HLN. In 2013, her on-air remarks about convicted rapists in Steubenville drew widespread criticism. She once fainted live on air in December 2015, explaining she had gotten hot and was fine, later tweeting from the hospital that she and her unborn daughter were well. From 2017, she co-anchored CNN Newsroom with Jim Sciutto, then became a founding anchor of CNN This Morning in 2022. She left the network in April 2024 without announcing new plans.

Harlow has won a Gracie Award and SABEW's Best in Business award. She is married to Sinisa Babcic, and they have two children. She received a John Jay Award from Columbia College in 2022 and delivered its Class Day keynote in May 2024. She is 5'5" with blonde hair and hazel eyes.
