Biography
About Natalie Wood
Standing 5'2" with an average build and natural 34B bust, Natalie Wood was a petite force in Hollywood. She was an American actress whose career spanned nearly four decades, from 1943 to 1981.
Born in San Francisco, California, Wood began acting at age four and landed a co-starring role at eight in Miracle on 34th Street (1947). As a teenager, she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and appeared in John Ford's The Searchers (1956). She starred in the musicals West Side Story (1961) and Gypsy (1962), and received Best Actress nominations for Splendor in the Grass (1961) and Love with the Proper Stranger (1963). Her filmography also includes Sex and the Single Girl (1964), The Great Race (1965), Inside Daisy Clover (1965), and Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969).
During the 1970s, Wood took a hiatus from film, focusing on family. She had two daughters: one with her second husband Richard Gregson, and one with Robert Wagner, her first husband, whom she later remarried. She appeared in only two feature films that decade but was more active in television, winning a Golden Globe for the 1979 remake of From Here to Eternity. Critics noted that her roles charted a coming of age for both her and Hollywood, reflecting the transition of modern American womanhood. On November 29, 1981, at age 43, she drowned near Santa Catalina Island during a break from filming Brainstorm (1983), her would-be comeback. The circumstances of her death remain debated; in 2012, the cause was listed as "drowning and other undetermined factors," and in 2018, Wagner was named a person of interest. Her sister Lana Wood is also an actress.
