About Jackie Chamoun

Edited by the community

Jackie Chamoun has raced for Lebanon in two Winter Olympics, a rare feat for a country where snowsports get little attention. She competed in Vancouver in 2010 and Sochi in 2014, each time as the nation's only female Alpine skier in the games. At Sochi she entered both the slalom and the giant slalom, finishing 47th in slalom.

Born in Deir el Qamar, Lebanon, on October 21st 1991, she learned to ski at age three in the mountain resort of Faraya. By 14, she was competing professionally in Slalom and Giant Slalom events around the world. She took part in the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2009 and 2013. At the 2010 Olympics, aged 18, she placed 54th in slalom.

Chamoun studied Sports Management at the Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland. While studying, she interned in Paris at Havas Sports and in Monaco at Peace and Sport. She hopes to improve sports in Lebanon by encouraging children to take up athletics and by building better practice facilities. Her Olympic participation stirred controversy in 2014 after photos from an Austrian ski calendar surfaced, but she has said the behind-the-scenes images were not meant for publication. An online "Strip for Jackie" protest emerged in support of her. She has an athletic build, red hair, and brown eyes, and she skis at 5'9" tall.
