Biography
About Elle MacPherson
Elle MacPherson was born Eleanor Nancy Gow on March 29, 1964, in Killara, Sydney, Australia. She is of Scottish and English descent, raised in a middle-class family with two sisters and a brother. Her parents divorced, and her mother remarried Neil Macpherson, whose surname she adopted. She attended Killara High School and briefly studied law at the University of Sydney. At 17, while on a ski trip in Aspen, Colorado, in 1981, she was scouted by Click Model Management. She moved to New York in 1982 to pursue modeling full-time.
Nicknamed "The Body" by Time magazine in 1989, she is one of only three models to hold that title, alongside Gisele Bündchen and Heidi Klum. She rose to fame as a supermodel in the 1980s and 1990s, part of "The Big 10" group that dominated the era. She has appeared on over 300 magazine covers, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Glamour, and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, where she holds the record for most covers (1986, 1987, 1988, 1994, 2006). She worked with Victoria's Secret in the 1990s, appeared in campaigns for Revlon, Christian Dior, and Ralph Lauren, and walked runways for Louis Vuitton, Valentino, and John Galliano. She continues to model selectively, appearing in Vogue Australia in 2023 and Zimmermann's 2024 campaign.
Beyond modeling, MacPherson is an actress, business woman, and podcaster. She has starred in films like Sirens, The Mirror Has Two Faces, Batman & Robin, and The Edge, and appeared on television in Friends as Janine LaCroix and as host of Britain's Next Top Model. She launched her WelleCo wellness brand in 2014 and the Elle Macpherson Intimates lingerie line in 1989, which ran until 2018. Her net worth is estimated at $95 million. She has two sons, Flynn and Cy, and currently splits her time between Miami and Sydney. She lives her life with a focus on wellness and privacy, and continues to engage with fans through her Instagram, where she shares tips and promotions.
She is 62 years old, stands 6'0", has brown hair and brown eyes, and maintains an athletic build with measurements of 36–24–34. She has no tattoos or piercings and has denied cosmetic surgeries, crediting her appearance to nutrition and exercise. Her Scottish and Australian heritage is a key part of her identity, often highlighted in her public persona.
