Sulli

Sulli was a South Korean actress, model, and musician whose career spanned from childhood to her untimely death in 2019. Born Choi Jin-ri in Seoul, she began acting at age 11, appearing in the historical drama Ballad of Seodong and later in films like Punch Lady and BA:BO. She signed with SM Entertainment and rose to fame as a member of the girl group f(x) in 2009, which achieved four number-one singles in Korea and became the first K-pop act to perform at SXSW. Her acting continued with the romantic comedy To the Beautiful You in 2012, earning her two SBS Drama Awards and a Paeksang nomination.

Sulli left f(x) in 2015 to focus on acting and modeling, becoming a global brand ambassador for Estée Lauder. She starred in the fantasy film The Pirates and the neo-noir thriller Real. In 2018, she returned to music with a guest spot on Dean's "Dayfly" and released her solo debut "Goblin" in 2019. Sulli was the most Googled person in South Korea in 2017, reflecting her outspoken public persona. She struggled with panic disorder and social phobia, and died by suicide on October 14, 2019, at age 25. Her close friend Goo Hara also died by suicide a month later.
