About Goo Hara

Edited by the community

Goo Hara, born in South Korea, stood 5 feet 4 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. She was an actress and a singer, and she became widely known as a member of the girl group Kara. Hara made her solo debut in July 2015 with the EP "Alohara (Can You Feel It?)". After Kara disbanded in 2016, she continued her career at another agency, KeyEast.

Her personal life turned turbulent in 2018 when she became involved in a legal dispute with her ex-boyfriend, Choi Jong-Bum. He assaulted her and threatened to release a sex video filmed without her consent. In May 2019, Hara attempted suicide, but she recovered and continued her activities. Her last release was the maxi single "Midnight Queen" in September 2019.

Hara was found dead at her home in November 2019, with the cause ruled as a possible suicide. Her death sparked worldwide attention to sexual crimes against women in South Korea. A petition led to the "Goo Hara Act," which amended inheritance laws. Her brother filed a lawsuit to prevent their mother from claiming inheritance, and the court awarded the mother 40% of the estate.
