Sarah Cracknell
Biography
About Sarah Cracknell
With her blonde hair, blue eyes, and slim build, Sarah Cracknell cuts a classic figure in British pop. She is best known as the lead singer of the electronic band Saint Etienne. Cracknell joined the group during the recording of their 1991 debut album, Foxbase Alpha, after two earlier singles with other vocalists. That album introduced a signature blend of 60s-inspired dance music and 80s synthpop. Saint Etienne emerged alongside Britpop and trip hop, sharing some attributes with those styles, but they remained distinct from either. Born in Chelmsford, Essex, in April 1965, Cracknell has balanced her band work with an occasional solo career. Her solo efforts haven't received as much attention as her work with Saint Etienne, but they are a notable part of her long career.
