Queta Garay

A slim, dark-maned woman with a gentle gaze, she carried herself as a musician. Queta Garay was born on Saturday the 26th of January 1935, in Mexico, and remained Mexican by nationality throughout her life. Her identity as a Latin, straight woman shaped her personal history, but her professional name was built entirely on music.

Queta dedicated herself to her craft, though few details of her career survive. She passed away on Wednesday the 20th of August 1980, at the age of 45. Her legacy lives on in the photographs and recordings that remain. She was gone too soon. Her story is one of quiet artistry, cut short in its prime.
