About Petra Kvitova
Petra Kvitova, born 8 March 1990 in Bílovec, Moravian-Silesian Region, is a Czech professional tennis player. With 29 career singles titles, she has claimed two Wimbledon titles, in 2011 and 2014. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, she won a bronze medal in singles while representing the Czech Republic. Her career-high ranking of world No. 2 came on 31 October 2011. Known for her powerful left-handed groundstrokes, she also has a knack for winning on debut: she won the WTA Championships in her first attempt and later the WTA Elite Trophy, becoming the only player to win both year-end championships on debut.
Kvitova first made headlines by defeating then-world No. 1 Dinara Safina at the 2009 US Open. A year later, she reached her first major semifinal at Wimbledon. Her breakthrough came in 2011, when she beat Maria Sharapova to win Wimbledon, becoming the first player of either gender born in the 1990s to claim a major. That year, she also led the Czech Republic to its first Fed Cup title as an independent nation. In 2012, she reached the semifinals at the Australian and French Opens, won the US Open Series, and partnered with Tomáš Berdych to win the Hopman Cup. In 2014, she captured her second Wimbledon crown, defeating Eugenie Bouchard in the final.
A consistent major performer, Kvitova reached the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slams by 2015, completing that set with a quarterfinal run at the US Open. In 2019, she reached her first major final in nearly five years, finishing runner-up to Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open. She is 6'0" tall with an athletic build, blonde hair, and blue eyes. She remains active on tour, with over two decades of professional experience. Her Instagram following stands at 657k, where she shares moments from her career and daily life.
