About Monica Garcia
Monica Garcia's love of storytelling began in second grade, when she told ghost stories to her classmates during recess. That urge to move people with stories still guides her work today.
Monica is an American journalist and TV host with a mixed-race (primarily Latin) ethnicity, and she is straight with an average body type. She has had a varied career across the country. After working for five years in Phoenix at two of the Valley's top stations, she joined News 4 Tucson. She was a Weekend Anchor/Reporter at Arizona's Family News 3TV CBS 5 News and a Multi-Media Journalist/Reporter at 12 News KPNX. Her path to Arizona began in Washington, D.C., at the NBC affiliate WRC-TV, where she was a production assistant and writer. In 2008, she helped field produce Pope Benedict XVI's first visit to the nation's capital.
Monica now anchors News 4 Tucson alongside Sean Mooney at 4, 6, and 10 p.m. on weekdays. She moved to Tucson in 2014 and fell in love with the desert while working as a Morning Reporter. She also met her husband in Arizona. Before that, she reported in San Diego and anchored on weekends in Jacksonville, Florida. A proud graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, she is familiar with the Southwest and learned Spanish while attending an international high school in Juarez, Mexico. When she is off air, Monica explores the food and culture of the desert, and she is currently trying every Mexican restaurant she can find.
