Biography

About Marli Renfro

Edited by the community

A buxom redhead with blue eyes and a natural 36D bust, Marli Renfro entered the entertainment world in the late 1950s. She worked as a glamour model and stripper from 1959 to 1962, appearing in men's magazines such as Ace, Beau, Adam, Follies, Gala, Modern Man, and Escapade. Her modeling career culminated in the cover of the September 1960 issue of Playboy, a notable achievement for any model of that era.

Her most famous work, though, came behind the scenes. Alfred Hitchcock paid her $400 a week to be the uncredited body double for Janet Leigh in the iconic shower scene of Psycho (1960). While Leigh claimed she performed most of the scene herself, Renfro was used for the sequence where Marion's corpse is wrapped in plastic. She also secured a substantial role in the soft-core Western Tonight for Sure (1962), directed by a young Francis Ford Coppola. This Western was Renfro's only other film credit.

After her brief but memorable career, Renfro stepped away from the spotlight. Her work in Hollywood, especially her connection to one of cinema's most famous scenes, has ensured her a place in film history. She is remembered as a striking presence who contributed to a classic, even if her name wasn't in the credits.
