Her follow-up, Wanderland (2001), received little attention and didn't get a U.S. release until 2019, so she left Virgin. In 2003 she released Tasty, which brought her commercial prominence with hits like "Milkshake," "Trick Me," "Millionaire" (featuring André 3000), and "In Public" (with Nas). Her fourth album, Kelis Was Here (2006), was preceded by the single "Bossy" and reached number 10 on the Billboard 200. After that, Kelis took a break from music and studied culinary arts at Le Cordon Bleu. She returned with Flesh Tone in 2010, signed to will.i.am's label, and scored hits on the dance charts with "Acapella" and "4th of July (Fireworks)." Her sixth album, Food (2014), a neo soul-inspired record, became her second top-20 in the UK and included "Jerk Ribs," "Rumble," and "Friday Fish Fry."

Kelis has been recognized at the Brit Awards, Q Awards, NME Awards, and Grammy Awards. She has collaborated with a wide range of artists, from Busta Rhymes and Clipse to Calvin Harris, Timo Maas, Richard X, Enrique Iglesias, No Doubt, Björk, and Dave Sitek. Across her career she has sold 6 million records worldwide, and in the UK ten of her singles reached the top ten. She is 46 years old, stands 5'9", and has brown hair and brown eyes. She is American, of mixed-race background, with African, Chinese, and Puerto Rican descent. Kelis was married to rapper Nas from 2005 to 2013 and, as of August 2023, is in a relationship with actor and comedian Bill Murray. She remains active in music since 1997.
