Katharine Ross

Ross made her film debut in the Civil War drama Shenandoah in 1965, followed by supporting parts in Mister Buddwing and The Singing Nun. Her breakthrough came in 1967 when she was cast as Elaine Robinson in Mike Nichols' comedy-drama The Graduate, a role that earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, a BAFTA nomination, and a Golden Globe win for New Star of the Year. She went on to star in two acclaimed westerns in 1969: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here, winning the BAFTA Award for Best Actress for both. In the 1970s, she shone in The Stepford Wives, for which she won a Saturn Award, and Voyage of the Damned, earning her second Golden Globe. Her other notable films include The Swarm, The Legacy, and The Final Countdown.

The 1980s saw Ross focus on television, with appearances in murder mysteries and westerns, and a starring role on the soap opera The Colbys from 1985 to 1987. She spent much of the 1990s in relative retirement, but returned to the big screen in 2001 with a supporting role in the cult hit Donnie Darko. Her later work included a voice role on American Dad! in 2016 and a leading role in The Hero in 2017, opposite her husband, actor Sam Elliott. Ross has also authored books. She is 86 years old.
