About Kate Humble

Edited by the community

Kate Humble is a British television presenter and former actress known for her work across science, travel, and wildlife programming. Born on December 12, 1968, in Wimbledon, Greater London, England, she grew up in Bray in Berkshire and attended the Abbey School in Reading. She admits she wasn't the best student the school ever had.

After leaving school, Kate traveled through Africa from Cape Town to Cairo, taking on various jobs such as waitressing, driving safari trucks, working on a crocodile farm, and performing as a magician's assistant, where she was the girl who got sawed in half. In 1990, she made her acting debut in the TV production The Secret Life of Ian Fleming, credited as "Lauren Heston .... The redhead." This later caused her some embarrassment due to the nude love scenes included in the production. In 1994, she wrote her first article for the Daily Telegraph travel section about Madagascar, followed by pieces on diving and cycling in Cuba, an 'exploding' lake in Cameroon, and hippopotamus conservation work in Ghana.

Kate began her television career as a researcher for the BBC, later moving to presenting programmes such as Top Gear, Tomorrow's World, and the 2001 series The Holiday Programme - You call the shots, where the team traveled the world based on viewer recommendations via text messaging and email. In 2000, she started presenting the BBC series Rough Science, which ran until 2005. More recently, she has specialized in wildlife programmes, including Animal Park, Springwatch with Bill Oddie, Wild in Africa, and SeaWatch. In 2008, she presented The Blue Planet Live! on a UK tour at venues like Wembley Arena and Symphony Hall in Birmingham. She also performs on the lecture circuit with a show titled Harassed by Hippos and Battered by Cod: A Humble Way to Make a Living.

On a personal note, Kate has been married to television producer Ludo Graham since 1992, and they have two sons, Bertie and Lawrence. In 2007, they moved from Chiswick to the Wye Valley. In a 2007 interview, she revealed her enjoyment of public nudity. She stands at 5'9" with blonde hair and a natural average build. Her career has spanned nearly three decades, and she remains a familiar face on British television. She is now 57 years old.
