American singer Kat DeLuna was born in the Bronx, New York City, on November 26, 1987. Of Dominican descent, she began singing as a teenager and signed with Epic Records. Her debut single, "Whine Up," released in 2007, became a commercial success, reaching the Top 40 in many countries and topping the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. Her debut album, 9 Lives, followed later that year, but it did not replicate the single's success. The album's third single, "Run the Show," became a hit in various territories and reached number two on the same dance chart.

After being dropped from Epic, DeLuna continued recording collaborations and soundtrack singles. Her second album, Inside Out, saw a limited release in 2010 through Universal Music Belgium. It produced singles like "Party O'Clock," "Unstoppable," "Push Push," and "Dancing Tonight," featuring Lil Wayne, Akon, and Fo Onassis respectively. A North American edition titled Viva was planned but never released. In 2016, she put out the compilation Loading, and she is currently working on her fourth studio album. Over the years, DeLuna has built a substantial following on social media, with over 440k followers on Instagram.

Her talent has been recognized with several awards. In 2007, she won Best New Artist at the Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica awards. The following year, she took home Best New Artist and Best Urban Artist at the TMF Awards. Her single "Whine Up" earned the Latin Dance Club Play Track of the Year at the 2008 Latin Billboard Music Awards, and she also won a Casandra Award for Best International Artist.
