Biography
About Imogen Hassall
Imogen Hassall, a British actress with a slim build, brown hair, and green eyes, was born on 25th August 1942 in Woking, Surrey, England. Her career in film and television spanned from 1965 to 1980, during which she appeared in a string of notable productions. Her first minor role came in The Early Bird in 1965. By 1970, she was a familiar face on the British small screen and in films, including El Condor, The Virgin and the Gypsy, Toomorrow, Carry On Loving, When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, and Take a Girl Like You. Imogen's full nudity in some roles added to her on-screen presence.
Her personal life was often in the spotlight. She was married twice: first to actor Kenneth Ives from 1974 to 1978, with whom she had a daughter, Melanie, who died four days after birth in 1972; and then briefly to actor Andrew Knox in 1979, separating after a few months. She had also had a baby that she lost during that marriage. By the mid-1970s, her career began to decline, and she took casual work at a wine bar. Her final screen appearance was in The Man From S.E.X. in 1979.
Tragically, on 16th November 1980, Imogen was found dead at her home in Wimbledon, her plane tickets in hand, from an overdose of Tuinals. She had been due to go on holiday that morning with her friend, actress Suzanna Leigh, who called the police. Imogen had made several previous suicide attempts. She was labelled "the Countess of Cleavage" by the press, a nickname that reflected her glamorous image. She once said she had two careers, as an actress and as a glamour girl, but found fulfillment in neither. She died at age 38.
