About Erin Andrews

Edited by the community

Erin Jill Andrews was born on May 4, 1978, in Lewiston, Maine, to Stephen and Paula Andrews. She moved to Tampa, Florida, as a young girl when her father, a six-time Emmy Award-winner, began working as an investigative journalist for WFLA-TV. After attending Bloomingdale High School near Tampa, she graduated in 2000 from the University of Florida with a degree in telecommunications. During her college years, she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and the Dazzlers, the Gator basketball dance team, from 1997 to 2000. Her younger sister Kendra is a professional dancer who appeared in the movie Step Up 3D.

Andrews began her broadcasting career in 2000 as a freelance reporter with FSN Florida. She moved on to the Sunshine Network in 2001, serving as a Tampa Bay Lightning reporter. In 2002, she became a studio host and part-time reporter for Turner Sports, covering the Atlanta Braves and college football for TBS, as well as the Atlanta Thrashers and Hawks for Turner South. By May 2004, she was a reporter for ESPN's National Hockey League coverage. Since then, she has served as a sideline reporter for college football Saturday telecasts, Saturday Primetime, and Big Ten college basketball. In 2005, her role expanded to include Major League Baseball sideline reporting. She also reports on the Great Outdoor Games, men's college baseball, and the College World Series. Starting in late 2010, she was announced as the host of ESPN's College Gameday from 9:00am to 10:00am on Saturdays on ESPNU and as a Good Morning America correspondent.

On July 8, 2009, Andrews was struck on the chin by a foul ball hit by Alex Cora of the New York Mets. She was rushed to the hospital but only suffered bruises. A more serious incident happened in July 2009 when a video of her naked in a hotel room, taken without her knowledge or consent, was posted online. She appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show on September 11, 2009, and called the situation a nightmare. The FBI arrested Michael David Barrett, who pleaded guilty to interstate stalking and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. Andrews later sued Radisson, Marriott, and the stalker. She also worked with US Senator Amy Klobuchar to enact a new federal anti-stalking law. In March 2010, she was a celebrity contestant on Dancing with the Stars for its tenth season, placing third in the finals with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Andrews has been a vocal advocate for tougher anti-stalking laws since the incident. She was voted America's Sexiest Sportscaster by Playboy magazine in 2007 and 2008. She stands 5'10", has blonde hair and hazel eyes, and an athletic build.
