About Deborah Francois

Edited by the community

"With brown hair and brown eyes, Déborah François has the kind of understated look that suits character-driven cinema. The Belgian actress stands 5'5" and keeps a natural figure, which she has brought to a career that began when she was around 18. She is best known for her starring role in the Palme d'Or-winning film, The Child (2005), directed by the Dardenne brothers. In 2009, she won a César Award for Most Promising Actress for The First Day of the Rest of Your Life.

Born in Rocourt, Liège, Belgium, she grew up as the second of three siblings. Her father is a policeman, and her mother is a social worker. She has an older sister and a younger brother. Those family roots in a provincial town have stayed with her as she built a 21-year acting career."
