About Dafina Zeqiri

Edited by the community

Swedish-born Kosovo-Albanian artist Dafina Zeqiri has built a career spanning nearly two decades in the Albanian music scene. Born on 14 April 1989 in Varberg, Sweden, she grew up in an Albanian family from Kosovo, the daughter of former singer Melihate Zeqiri. Her father, Nebih Bajraktari, left the family early; he later gave a public speech asking for her forgiveness, but she never replied. She has two siblings, Tringa Zeqiri and Besa Tafari née Zeqiri.

Her rise began in 2007 when she performed at the Polifest Festival and won with her song "Rrallë e Përmallë." The following year, she released her debut album Knock Down and received a BOOM Award nomination for "Adios," winning the audience award. She also took home the "First Magic" award at Kënga Magjike for "Bateritë." Collaborations followed with Blero and F-Kay on "La Vida Loca" and with Capital T and 2po2 on "Shumë Naltë." In 2009, she won "Best RNB" at Top Fest 6 with "Dua që ta di" and released successful videos for "Shumë Larg" and "Amazing Girl." She traveled to Australia in 2010 to shoot "Rock This Club." In late 2011, she released the single "D&G" with Getoar Selimi, plus "Tonight" from her album Just Me.

From 2015 onward, Zeqiri continued to evolve. The single "Liri" (March 2016) earned her the best production award at Netët e Klipit Shqiptar. After time in the United States, she released her first EP, King, in November 2017, led by "Four Season" and "Told Ya," both charting high in Albania. The music video for "Four Season" featured French Montana. In 2018, she put out four singles, with "Kurgjo nuk kallxojna" and "Alo" reaching the top 35. In 2020, her collaboration with Cricket, "Një herë në jetë," peaked at number 5 in Albania. Her second studio album, Dafinë moj, arrived later that year, with singles like "Aman" (featuring Ledri Vula and Lumi B), "Million $", "Zili Zili", and "Mos shko" with Yll Limani, all charting in Albania. In September 2021, she was nominated for the Swedish government's music export prize.

Often called a "diva of Albanian music," Zeqiri cites Aaliyah as a major influence, alongside Ciara, Destiny's Child, Lauryn Hill, Michael Jackson, TLC, and the Spice Girls. Her style blends R&B and soul with electropop, trap, and urban Albanian pop. She remains a prominent figure in the Albanian music scene, with her work reaching audiences across Europe.
