About Da Brat
Shawntae Harris-Dupart, known to the world as Da Brat, first grabbed attention in 1992, when she started her career and signed with Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Recordings. Her debut album, Funkdafied, sold a million copies in 1994, making her the first female hip hop solo act to earn platinum certification from the RIAA. She was the second female hip hop act, after Salt-N-Pepa, to achieve this. The title track from that album reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the Hot Rap Songs chart. She also appeared on Lil' Kim's 1997 single "Not Tonight" alongside Lisa Lopes, Missy Elliott, and Angie Martinez, which hit number three on the Hot 100.
Her follow-up album, Anuthatantrum, came out in 1996 and featured the single "Ghetto Love" with T-Boz. In 2000, her third album, Unrestricted, peaked at number five on the Billboard 200. Over the years, she lent her voice to tracks by Dem Franchize Boyz and Mariah Carey, including the remixes of "Loverboy," "Always Be My Baby," and "Honey," plus the 1999 mashup "I Still Believe/Pure Imagination." She and Carey released a duet in 2003 called "Gotta Thing For You," a hip hop take on Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love." Brat has received two Grammy nominations.
Born and raised in Chicago's West Side, Da Brat is an American actress, musician, and radio host who identifies as bisexual. She stands 5'4" with brown hair and brown eyes. A lesser-known fact: she and actress LisaRaye McCoy share the same father, making them half-sisters. Da Brat has maintained a steady presence in entertainment for over three decades, and her social media following reflects that longevity, with millions of followers on Instagram.
