About Lisa Lopes
Lisa Lopes was a musician whose career spanned from 1990 to 2002, and her work left a lasting mark on music. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, and identified as American with a mixed-race ethnicity, primarily Latin. Lopes was known for her slim build, brown hair, and brown eyes, and she had natural breasts.
Lopes, who went by the stage name Left Eye, was a member of the R&B group TLC, alongside Tionne Watkins (T-Boz) and Rozonda Thomas (Chilli). She was the creative force behind the group, earning more co-writing credits than her bandmates and contributing to their image, album titles, artworks, and music videos. She also designed some of their outfits and the stage for the FanMail Tour. Through TLC, she won four Grammy Awards.
Her solo career produced two US top 10 singles, "Not Tonight" and "U Know What's Up," and a UK number-one single, "Never Be the Same Again," a collaboration with Melanie Chisholm (Mel C) of the Spice Girls. She also produced the girl group Blaque, who achieved a Platinum album and two US top 10 hits. Lopes is the only TLC member to have released a solo album.
Lopes was in an on-and-off relationship with former NFL wide receiver Andre Rison from 1993 to 2001. The relationship was marked by domestic violence allegations. In 1994, during an altercation, she lit his shoes on fire in the bathtub, burning his house down, and was charged with first-degree arson. She received five years of probation.
On April 25, 2002, Lopes died in a car crash in Roma, Jutiapa, Honduras, while volunteering at a children's development center. She was speeding and lost control of her rental SUV. Four other passengers were injured. The documentary The Last Days of Left Eye aired on VH1 in May 2007. Lopes was 30 years old.
