Her path into adult entertainment began almost by accident: after working in a factory and a video store, she entered an amateur contest at a local strip club on a dare, enjoyed it, and quit her job to dance full-time. A Swinger's Convention led to magazine layout offers in New York, and then a Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show booth in 1995 caught the attention of adult producers. She made her hardcore debut that year, working under aliases like Christy Lake, Cristi Lake, and Christine L. Jacquart, and never considered herself a MILF, avoiding those roles throughout her career.

Lake became known for her versatility. She was a bisexual performer who worked in solo, girl-girl, boy-girl, and bondage scenes, and she even invited fans to appear in her Fan Fuxxx series, launched in 1996, a concept that earned a 1998 AVN nomination for Best Pro/Am Series and spawned imitators. She also founded Dripping Wet Pix, producing films like Southern Comfort and Director's Wet Dreams, and directed at least seven movies between 1997 and 2003, including work for Arrow Productions, where she was a contract performer.

Fans of the era remembered her as a tall, charismatic presence, with one retro fan praising her Fan Fuxxx series by saying, 'Christi's fan interaction meant that every guy had a chance to fuck her.' Ron Jeremy once told AVN, 'I love Christi Lake. I always call her Miss Lake cause she always reminded me of the hot school teacher you had a crush on as a kid.' The Rialto Report noted that while she was never a box cover girl, she was dependable in over 250 movies and a trailblazer with Fan Fuxxx.

Lake retired from performing in 2004 and from directing in 2005, telling The Rialto Report that 40 was a good place to stop. Now in her 60s, she lives privately with no active social media, but her work remains in 1990s-2000s adult film archives, and fans have renewed calls for her induction into the AVN Hall of Fame.
