About Ana Ivanovic
Serbian Ana Ivanovic, born on Friday 6th of November 1987 in Belgrade, is a former professional tennis player who reached the pinnacle of the sport. She became world No. 1 in 2008 after winning the French Open, and held the top ranking for 12 weeks. She also finished runner-up at the 2007 French Open and the 2008 Australian Open. Over her career from 2003 to 2016, she claimed 15 WTA singles titles and earned over $15.5 million in prize money, ranking 25th all-time. Her aggressive style and powerful forehand were widely praised; Nadia Petrova called it "the best out there."
Ivanovic's breakthrough came at the 2004 Zurich Open, where she qualified and narrowly lost to Venus Williams. By age 18, she had already beaten established players like Svetlana Kuznetsova and Amélie Mauresmo. After her 2008 French Open victory, she struggled with attention and form, failing to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal for 17 consecutive tournaments and dropping to No. 65 in July 2010. She rebounded in 2012, reaching the US Open quarterfinals and finishing the year in the top 15. In 2014, she won four titles, including the Auckland Open, and secured a year-end ranking of No. 5. Her final major highlight was a semifinal appearance at the 2015 French Open. She retired in late December 2016, citing an inability to perform at a high standard.
Off the court, Ivanovic was inspired by Monica Seles and studied finance at a university in Belgrade. She became a UNICEF National Ambassador for Serbia in 2007, focusing on education and child protection. Since 2010, she has spent time in Basel, Switzerland, which she adopted as a home away from home. She married German footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger in 2016, and the couple have two sons. In 2023, she announced she was expecting a third child. With her 6'1" athletic frame, green eyes, and natural 34B bust, she has also been recognized in various beauty lists, including Maxim's Hot 100.
