About Agnieszka Radwanska
Athletic and 5'8" tall with brown hair and brown eyes, Agnieszka Radwanska was a force on the tennis court from 2005 to 2018. Born in Kraków, Poland, on 6 March 1989, she turned professional around age 16 and spent 13 years competing at the highest level. Her intelligent court play earned her 20 career singles titles and two doubles titles, and she reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 2 in July 2012.
Radwańska made history for Polish tennis on multiple fronts. She became the first Polish player in the Open Era to reach a Grand Slam singles final, at Wimbledon in 2012, and the first Pole to win the WTA Finals, in 2015. She also claimed Poland's first WTA singles title at the 2007 Nordic Light Open and helped the country win the Hopman Cup. Her consistency was remarkable: she finished eight years inside the top 10, including a run of six straight from 2011 to 2016. In 2013, Polish President Bronisław Komorowski awarded her the Gold Cross of Merit.
Fans adored her. She won the WTA Fan Favourite Award six times in a row, from 2011 to 2016, and the Shot of the Year award five years running, from 2013 to 2017. Though she never won a Grand Slam, she is widely regarded as one of the best players to have missed that title. She announced her retirement on 14 November 2018 at age 29. Her legacy as a trailblazer for Polish tennis remains strong. She is straight and of Polish nationality.
