About Alicia Sacramone
Alicia Sacramone began gymnastics at age eight, a start that would lead to one of the most decorated careers in U.S. gymnastics history. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 3, 1987, she competed at the elite level from 2002 to 2012. During that decade she became a mainstay of the U.S. national team, first joining in 2003.
Sacramone won twelve medals at U.S. National Championships between 2004 and 2008, including four golds on vault and two on floor exercise. At World Championships from 2005 to 2007, she claimed seven medals, taking floor exercise gold in 2005 and team gold in 2007. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, she earned a team silver medal. After a brief pause, she returned in 2010 to win the National Championship on vault, then added the World title on the same apparatus later that year in Rotterdam. That gold brought her to nine career World medals, tying Shannon Miller and Nastia Liukin for the most among U.S. gymnasts at the time. Though injury kept her from competing in the 2011 team finals, she still received a medal as an official team member, giving her a tenth World medal and making her the most decorated U.S. gymnast in World Championship history. She stands 5'1" tall, weighs 117 lbs, and has an athletic build, with natural measurements of 34–28–32.
Her leadership of teammates drew praise, and she was also known for candid, outspoken interviews. That mix of success and personality has kept her a recognizable figure in the sport long after her competitive years ended. Today she maintains an Instagram presence with roughly 78k followers.
