About Adrienne Augarde

Edited by the community

Standing at just 5'0" with brown hair and hazel eyes, Adrienne Augarde defied her petite frame to become one of the most popular actresses of Edwardian musical comedy. She was born on 12 May 1882 in Westminster, London, and began her stage career in 1898, taking on roles in pantomime and small musical comedies. By the early 1900s, she was starring in leading roles in productions by George Edwardes, earning acclaim in both London and New York.

Her career spanned nearly a decade, highlighted by long-running shows from 1903 to 1912. Augarde also tried her hand at drama. In 1912, she embarked on an American vaudeville tour, but fell ill during the tour. After a failed appendectomy, she died on 17 March 1913 at age 30, cutting short a promising career.
