About Charli XCX
Charlotte Emma Aitchison, known professionally as Charli XCX, started posting songs on Myspace in 2008, which led to a promoter inviting her to perform at warehouse raves. Born in Cambridge and raised in Start Hill, Essex, she signed with Asylum Records in 2010, releasing a series of singles and mixtapes through 2012. Her debut album, True Romance (2013), received positive reviews but didn't meet commercial expectations. In 2014, she contributed to Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," which became one of the best-selling singles worldwide and earned two Grammy nominations. Her second album, Sucker (2014), produced the hit "Boom Clap," her first solo top-ten single on the Billboard Hot 100.
Charli XCX is English and of Gujarati Indian and Scottish descent. She began working with the PC Music collective in 2015, developing a more experimental sound. That period yielded the Vroom Vroom EP (2016) and mixtapes Number 1 Angel and Pop 2 (2017). Her albums Charli (2019) and How I'm Feeling Now (2020) received widespread acclaim. Crash (2022) became her biggest commercial success, and in 2024 she released Brat to critical acclaim. In 2024 she also received the ASCAP Global Impact Award.
Beyond her solo work, Charli XCX has co-written songs for Selena Gomez, Blondie, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, and Sigala and Rita Ora. Her song "Mean Girls" from Brat was inspired by her fascination with "mean girls" and women like herself and her friend Gabriette Bechtel. She stands 5'3" with an average build and brown hair and eyes. She is active across social media, with a large following on Instagram and significant presences on TikTok and YouTube. Her trajectory from Myspace to global pop stardom shows an artist who has continually reinvented her sound. She remains a defining figure in modern pop music.
