About Vera Gottlieb von Lehndorff
German model and actress Vera Gottlieb von Lehndorff, better known as Veruschka, was born in Königsberg, East Prussia, on 14 May 1939. She is the second daughter of Count Heinrich von Lehndorff-Steinort and Countess Gottliebe von Kalnein, members of the Prussian nobility. Her father, a reserve officer, became a key figure in the anti-Nazi resistance. Accused of involvement in the 20 July plot, he was hanged on 4 September 1944. Her mother, pregnant at the time, was interned in a labor camp, and Vera and her sisters were taken to Bad Sachsa with other conspirators' children.
After the war, Vera studied in Hamburg and Florence. In 1959, photographer Ugo Mulas discovered her and launched her modeling career. She moved to Paris and then New York in 1961, but found little success there. Returning to Munich, she began to cultivate an aura of mystery, spreading a rumor that she was Russian and adopting the pseudonym Veruschka. She stands 5'11" with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slim build. Her natural measurements are 33.86–24.8–35.04. She is now 87 years old. She has retired from acting and modeling, but her legacy as a striking figure of the 1960s fashion world endures. She is also noted for her full nudity in artistic works. No other details are given about her later life.
