Varalaxmi Sarathkumar

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar was born on Tuesday 5th of March 1985 in Bengaloru, Karnataka, India. She is an Indian actress who works in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam films. After schooling at St. Michael's Academy, Chennai, she earned a degree in Microbiology from Hindustan Arts and Science College, Chennai, and a Masters in Business Management from the University of Edinburgh. She refined her acting at Anupam Kher's Acting School in Mumbai before turning professional.

Her debut came with the Tamil romantic drama Podaa Podi (2012), a film she signed in June 2008. It took four years to release, but her performance as a London-based dancer won critical acclaim. Rediff.com called her a 'scene stealer', and Sify.com praised her confidence and candour. She then worked on Madha Gaja Raja, which remains unreleased due to financial troubles. In 2014, she starred in the Kannada film Maanikya alongside Sudeep; it became one of the year's highest-grossing Kannada films. For Bala's Tharai Thappattai (2016), she lost ten kilograms to portray a karakattam dancer. After that, she tweeted about landing a role opposite Mammootty in the Malayalam film Kasaba, crediting her Tharai Thappattai performance. She also left the Malayalam remake Aakasha Mittaayee, citing the producers' behaviour as 'mannerless'. In 2017, her releases included Vikram Vedha, Nibunan, Vismaya, Sathya, Kaattu, and Masterpiece. Over 14 years, she has built a varied career across four film industries.
