Traci Lords

Her adult film career started in 1984, when she was just 15, though her paperwork claimed she was 20. She quickly became a prominent figure, appearing in approximately 100 adult films and videos between 1984 and 1987, including Talk Dirty to Me Part III, New Wave Hookers, and Beverly Hills Copulator. She worked with major studios like VCA and Caballero Home Video and performed alongside stars like Christy Canyon and Ron Jeremy. Her standout scenes were noted for their intensity, and her youthful appearance made her a fan favorite, earning her the nickname "The Princess of Porn." In 1986, authorities discovered she was underage in all of her adult film work, sparking a major scandal. The revelation led to legal actions, with producers facing charges and her pre-18 films being pulled from distribution in the U.S., costing the industry millions. She made one more movie, Traci, I Love You, filmed a few days after her 18th birthday, which she financed herself and owned the rights to. Lords maintained she was exploited, while some co-stars felt lied to and portrayed her as a brat who knew exactly what she was doing. Others sympathized with her, and the scandal led to new industry regulations requiring three legal proofs of age.

Transitioning to mainstream acting, Lords studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and began securing roles in the late 1980s. Her mainstream film career includes notable performances in John Waters' Cry-Baby (1990) as Wanda Woodward, Not of This Earth (1988), Blade (1998) as Racquel, Serial Mom (1994), Boogie Boy (1998), and Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008). She also had roles in TV shows like Melrose Place, Profiler, and Gilmore Girls. She was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress for Excision (2012). She married Jeff Gruenewald in 2002, and they have a son, Joseph Gunnar Lee, born in 2007. Lords retired from adult films in 1987, focusing on mainstream acting, music, and writing. She released an autobiography, Underneath It All (2003), which became a New York Times bestseller. She also ventured into music, releasing the dance album 1000 Fires (1995), with the single "Control" featured on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. As of 2025, she remains active in entertainment, taking on occasional acting roles, producing, and directing. She has expressed interest in advocacy for survivors of exploitation, drawing from her own experiences. She lives a relatively private life, focusing on family and creative projects.
