About Tina Weymouth
Tina Weymouth is an American musician, singer, and songwriter, best known as the bassist and founding member of the new wave group Talking Heads and its side project Tom Tom Club. She co-founded Tom Tom Club with her husband, Talking Heads drummer Chris Frantz. In 2002, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Talking Heads. She has blonde hair and green eyes, and an average build.
While a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, she met Chris Frantz and David Byrne, who formed a band called the Talking Heads. She began dating Frantz and served as the band's driver. After graduation, the three moved to New York City. Since Byrne and Frantz couldn't find a suitable bass player, she joined at their request and learned the instrument. The band became mainstays in the New York City punk rock scene, playing at the nightclub CBGB alongside acts like the Ramones, Television, Blondie, the Patti Smith Group, and the Dead Boys.
Talking Heads recorded four critically acclaimed albums between 1977 and 1980. After a short break in 1981, Weymouth and Frantz formed the playful Tom Tom Club, with Weymouth on lead vocals and her sisters on backing vocals. The group produced two popular singles, "Wordy Rappinghood" and "Genius of Love," the hook of which has been sampled by many musicians, notably Mariah Carey on "Fantasy." When Talking Heads reconvened, they recorded Speaking in Tongues, which produced their highest-charting single, "Burning Down the House." Several shows from that tour were filmed for Jonathan Demme's Stop Making Sense, often considered one of the best concert documentaries ever. Talking Heads continued to release hits like "And She Was," "Road to Nowhere," and "Wild Wild Life" before splitting in the early 1990s. Since then, Weymouth and Frantz have focused on Tom Tom Club. She is 75 years old, born in Coronado, California.
