About Tessa Virtue
Tessa Virtue is a retired Canadian ice dancer and one of the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history. With her partner Scott Moir, she won Olympic gold in 2010 and 2018, Olympic silver in 2014, and became a three-time World champion. Together, they are the only ice dance team to achieve a Super Slam, having won every major competition in both junior and senior careers. Virtue and Moir also set a world record score for the original dance, a feat that remains unmatched.
Born in London, Ontario, on May 17, 1989, Virtue began skating at age six after a school field trip to an ice arena. She teamed up with Moir in 1997 when she was seven, and their partnership lasted over two decades. In 2010, they became the first ice dancers from North America to win Olympic gold, ending a 34-year European streak. They returned from a two-year break to win again in 2018, becoming only the second ice dance team ever with two Olympic golds in the individual event. In 2019, they announced they were stepping away from the sport, ending a 22-year partnership.
Virtue is a Canadian national treasure. She was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2020 and inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2023. Off the ice, she has pursued psychology studies and an Executive MBA from Queen's University. She is engaged to Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly. Virtue stands 5'5" with black hair and green eyes, and her natural slim build complemented her graceful skating style. She remains a beloved figure in Canadian sports history.
