Tawny Newsome

American actress, comedian, musician, and writer Tawny Newsome was born in Vacaville, California, and has been active in entertainment since 2008. She is known for playing Angela Ali in Netflix's Space Force, Ensign Beckett Mariner in Star Trek: Lower Decks, Gabby in IFC's Brockmire, and Chelsea Leight-Leigh in Pluto's Bajillion Dollar Properties. She has also appeared in comedies like NBC's Superstore and Perfect Harmony, and she hosts the Official Star Trek Podcast, Star Trek: The Pod Directive, alongside Paul F. Tompkins.

Before moving to Los Angeles, she performed on the Second City Mainstage in Chicago and toured with her bands, including Four Lost Souls and a long-running collaboration with Jon Langford. Together they made quirky, outsider country music with a shifting lineup, and recently recorded an album in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, with some of the original Muscle Shoals Sound session players.

Her most recent project is 'Material Flats,' a fully independent, DIY rock record made with fellow singer and longtime friend Bethany Thomas. The 8-track album blends garage, punk, pop, and alt-country splashes. They co-wrote all the tracks in June 2020 while sheltering in place together at Tawny's home and studio in the Mojave desert, where she also engineered the record herself. It's a windy, weird, desert-punk album with a sweet side and an undercurrent of anxiety, released October 9th, 2020.
