Biography
About Stephanie Nur
Stephanie Nur, born on the 6th of May 1988, has led a life in motion. Born in Cairo to an Austrian diplomat father and a Syrian painter mother, she spent her childhood moving every few years. That upbringing took her across Egypt, Romania, Italy, Austria, Sri Lanka, Scotland, Jordan, and the US. She grew up speaking Arabic, German, Italian, and English fluently.
Her middle name, Nur, is the ancient Aramaic word for 'light,' a fitting detail for a woman who has balanced humanitarian work with a blossoming acting career. She studied Psychology at the University of Stirling in Scotland, completing her MSc with Honours in three years rather than the typical five. In 2011, she worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan, helping respond to the Syrian refugee crisis.
Stephanie's acting path began on small stages in Vienna. Her first film role came in 'Risse im Beton' (Cracks in Concrete), which was nominated at the Berlinale and earned an Austrian Film Academy Award in 2014. While in Vienna, she also translated scripts and subtitles for European film production companies. Her English-language breakthrough arrived opposite Sam Elliott in Taylor Sheridan's '1883,' leading to a major role in 'Special Ops: Lioness.' That same year she starred in 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3.' Her latest project is 'MARY,' where she plays Salome opposite Anthony Hopkins. As an actress with a background straddling Europe and the Middle East, she brings a singular perspective to every role she takes on.
