Biography
About Sophie Thatcher
Actress and musician Sophie Thatcher was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 18, 2000. She attended Evanston Township High School and later went to The Chicago Academy for the Arts, a performing arts school for musical theatre. She was raised in a Mormon household but has since left the church, describing the experience as hard and saying that working was a good way to get out of going to church. She grew up singing in a church choir while her mother played piano, and she started acting at age four. Her on-camera experience led her to pursue acting more than singing. She has a brother, an older sister, and an identical twin sister named Ellie, and she has described her family as musical.
Thatcher began her career in 2015 with a short film called Growing Strong. The next year, she appeared as a guest in the police procedural Chicago P.D. and also made a guest appearance in Fox's supernatural horror series The Exorcist, playing a younger version of Regan MacNeil. Her big screen debut came in 2018 with the science fiction film Prospect, co-starring Pedro Pascal. She received positive reviews for her performance, with Variety's Peter Deburge describing her as "a fresh face who tricks us into assuming she's just a callow teen, when in fact, she proves to be the film's toughest character." In 2019, she appeared in The Tomorrow Man.
The same year, Thatcher landed the role of Natalie in Yellowjackets. Creator Bart Nickerson said the casting department was searching for "someone who was really free-spirited and unique who could play both a sort of wildness and a vulnerability." Although most auditions were held in person, Thatcher submitted a self-recorded tape and was cast as the younger Natalie, with Juliette Lewis portraying the adult version. The pilot was shot in November 2019, and the series premiered in November 2021 to rave reviews. It became Showtime's second most streamed series behind Dexter: New Blood. In 2020, she starred in the Quibi series When the Streetlights Go On.
Following speculation, Thatcher was confirmed to appear in The Book of Boba Fett, where she played Drash, the leader of a group of cyborgs who work for Boba Fett. In 2022, she was an executive producer on her sister Emma's film Provo. That year she also appeared in the music video for Pavement's single "Harness Your Hopes." She next starred in the horror film The Boogeyman, based on Stephen King's short story, released in theaters on June 2, 2023. As an experimental musician, she released her debut EP Pivot & Scrape in October 2024. An ex-Mormon herself, she played a Mormon missionary in the horror film Heretic (2024), for which she recorded a cover of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." She also starred in the science fiction thriller Companion (2025), and in February 2025 it was announced she was in talks to appear opposite Mark Eydelshteyn in the second season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
She has lived in the Sherman Oaks and Silver Lake neighborhoods of Los Angeles and currently resides in Nichols Canyon with her boyfriend, musician Austin Feinstein of Slow Hollows. Thatcher is American and of Caucasian ethnicity. She has brown hair, blue eyes, stands 5'6", and has a slim build. She continues to act and make music.
