Sonia Braga

Sonia Braga is a 76-year-old actress who first gained international attention with the film "Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands." Born on June 8, 1950, in Maringá, Parana, Brazil, she is American by nationality, though her roots are Brazilian. She began acting in 1968, nearly six decades ago, and has maintained a steady career since.

Before pursuing an artistic path, Braga worked as a secretary. She then studied theater acting, which laid the foundation for her on-screen success. In the English-speaking world, she is known for her performances in Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985) and Moon over Parador (1988), both of which earned her Golden Globe nominations. She also received a BAFTA nomination for Dona Flor in 1981 and an Emmy nomination for The Burning Season (1994). In 2016, with the film Aquarius, she won best actress honors at several festivals, including Biarritz, Fênix, Havana, Mar del Plata, Lima, San Diego, and the Platino Awards. Earlier, she had won at the Gramado Film Festival twice: in 1981 for I Love You and in 2001 for Memórias Póstumas.
