Biography
About Soledad Miranda
Soledad Miranda was a Spanish actress and musician whose career in 1960s European cinema was cut short by a fatal car accident at age 27. Born in Sevilla, Andalusia, Spain, on July 9, 1943, she began performing at age eight as a flamenco dancer and singer. Her film debut came at age sixteen, and over the next decade she appeared in more than thirty films across Spain, spanning comedies, dramas, B-movies, and horror. She was slender and petite, with black hair and brown eyes, and her natural figure made her a memorable screen presence.
Her most significant collaboration was with director Jess Franco, who cast her in cult classics such as Count Dracula and Vampyros Lesbos. Many consider her his greatest discovery. In 1966 she married José Manuel Simões, a former race-car driver, and the couple had a son. Tragically, on August 18, 1970, she was involved in a highway accident in Portugal and died hours later. Shortly before, a German film producer had offered her a contract that could have made her a major star. In the years since her death, she has become a cult favorite among horror and exploitation film fans worldwide.
