About Sigrid Gurie

Edited by the community

Sigrid Gurie was a Norwegian-American actress who worked in film from 1937 to 1950. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Norwegian parents and grew up in Oslo, later being educated in Norway, Belgium, and Sweden. She held dual citizenship in the United States and Norway.

Gurie was famously billed as the "Siren of the fjords," but the press later discovered she was actually born in Flatbush. The film magnate who discovered her called it the biggest hoax of the century. In the late 1940s, she studied at the Kann Art Institute in West Hollywood, focusing on oils and portraiture. Her artwork included landscapes, portraits, and ink and pen sketches.

From 1961 to 1969, she lived in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she also designed jewelry. She died in Mexico in August 1969. She was married three times. She stood 5'9" with blonde hair.
