Shirying Tay

Artist Shirying Tay is a self-taught abstract painter from Los Angeles. She draws inspiration from her STEM background, transforming canvases into a fusion of laboratory and art space. Using shapes, lines, and dimensions, she weaves emotional landscapes that mirror the intricate essence of existence.

With intentional brushwork, Tay captures the universal tumult of life, while her Chinese immigrant heritage fuels interconnecting lines that symbolize a longing to transcend boundaries. Her art merges scientific precision with emotional depth, inviting reflection on interconnected journeys within life's chaos. She is also a fashion designer, showcasing both paintings and clothing on her popular Instagram account, lo3tus. That platform has attracted more than 600,000 followers. Many videos feature her journey of putting a fashion show together, along with short films, POV dating videos, K-pop dance covers, and lifestyle content.

Tay, who is American of Asian ethnicity at 5'7", plays guitar and drums. In February 2025, she attended the art fair Frieze Los Angeles. She has been heavily inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Pablo Picasso. Her work is a blend of precision and emotion, a distinctive voice in contemporary abstract art.
