About Sha'Carri Richardson
Sha'Carri Richardson is an American track and field sprinter who competes in the 100 metres and 200 metres. Born on March 25, 2000, in Dallas, Texas, she first gained national attention in 2019 as a freshman at Louisiana State University. At the NCAA Division I Championships, she ran 10.75 seconds, breaking the collegiate record for the 100 m. That time made her one of the ten fastest women in history at just 19 years old.
In April 2021, Richardson improved her personal best to 10.72 seconds, becoming the sixth-fastest woman of all time at that moment and the fourth-fastest American woman ever. She qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics by winning the U.S. Olympic Trials with a time of 10.86 seconds. However, a positive test for cannabis use following the trials invalidated her win and made her ineligible for the 100 m at the Olympics. After completing a counseling program, she accepted a one-month period of ineligibility that began on June 28, 2021.
Richardson returned to form in 2023, winning the U.S. national championship in the 100 m with a time of 10.82 seconds. Later that year, she claimed gold at the World Championships in Budapest, beating Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in a championship record time of 10.65 seconds. She also helped Team USA win the 4 × 100 m relay, setting another championship record of 41.03 seconds. In 2024, she defended her national title in the 100 m and earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. At the Paris Olympics, she took silver in the 100 m and gold in the 4 × 100 m relay.
Standing just 5'1" and weighing 99 lbs, Richardson is known for her distinctive speed and competitive spirit. She is bisexual and has been active in the sport since 2015. With over 4.4 million followers on Instagram, she remains one of the most prominent figures in track and field.
