About Senta Berger

Edited by the community

Senta Berger is an Austrian actress with a career spanning over seven decades, from her early days in post-war Vienna to international fame in Hollywood and European cinema. Born on the 13th of May, 1941, in Vienna, Austria, she was raised in a family of modest means: her father, Josef, was a musician, and her mother, Therese, was a school teacher. Senta's artistic talent emerged early; at four, she performed with her father, singing while he played piano. By five, she was taking ballet lessons, and at fourteen, she turned her attention to acting, taking private lessons. She left private school at sixteen to pursue her craft, and her diligence paid off when she was discovered by director Willi Forst in 1957, landing a small role in a film.

Senta's early career was marked by rapid progress. She was accepted to the esteemed Max Reinhardt Seminar and became the youngest member of the Vienna Theater in Josefstadt in 1958. Her talent caught the eye of director Bernhard Wicki and producer Artur Brauner, who cast her in 'The Good Soldier' alongside Heinz Rühmann. The film's success led to further collaborations with Brauner. In 1962, she moved to Hollywood, starring with legendary actors like Charlton Heston, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and John Wayne. After several years in American cinema, she returned to Europe in 1969, where she became a familiar face in Italian productions of various genres. She also made a notable return to the German-speaking screen with the thriller 'Babeck' in 1968 and later managed a successful TV comeback in 1985 with the series 'Kir Royal'.

As her career evolved, Senta expanded into producing. In 1970, she made her debut as a producer with her own company, and her productions included acclaimed international films such as 'The White Rose', 'The Nasty Girl', and 'Mother Courage'. The birth of her two sons, Simon (b. 1972) and Luca (b. 1979), prompted her to shift focus toward theater, though she continued to make TV guest appearances. With her slim build, brown hair, blue eyes, and natural 34C bust, Senta has maintained a steady presence in the entertainment world for over 75 years, with her filmography reflecting a wide range of roles and genres.
