About Semoy Hackett

Edited by the community

Trinidadian sportswoman Semoy Hackett was born on Sunday, 27th of November 1988, in Lambeau, Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago. She is a track and field sprint athlete who competed collegiately at Louisiana State University. Hackett has been active in the sport since 2004, starting around age 15, and has been competing for 22 years.

Her personal bests are 11.09 seconds in the 100m and 22.49 seconds in the 200m. Hackett represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In the 100 metres sprint, she placed fourth in her first-round heat, which normally meant elimination, but her time of 11.53 seconds was among the ten fastest losing times, so she qualified for the second round. There, she failed to advance to the semi-finals as her time of 11.46 was the sixth time of her race. She also took part in the 4x100 metres relay with Wanda Hutson, Ayanna Hutchinson, and Kelly-Ann Baptiste, but they did not finish in their first-round heat due to a mistake with the baton exchange.

Hackett's career has also included doping-related setbacks. At the 2011 World Championships, she ran a relay but was retrospectively disqualified and banned for six months due to a failed drug test for Methylhexaneamine at the National Championships. In November 2012, Louisiana State University reported she had again tested positive for the same substance at the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which forced LSU to vacate their national championship. Hackett received a doping ban of two years and four months, which ended on 30 April 2015.
