Biography
About Sajsi MC
With her trademark brown hair and slim frame, Sajsi MC cuts a distinctive figure on the Serbian music scene. Born Ivana Rašić Trmčić on 12 October 1981 in Belgrade, she is a Serbian rapper, singer, and songwriter, widely recognized as one of the most prominent female rappers in Serbia. Her lyrics delve into sexuality, feminism, and other socio-political subjects, setting her apart in a traditionally male-dominated genre.
Rašić grew up in Zaječar until she was 19. Her father, Jovan Rašić, is a dentist and the founder and lead singer of the popular Yugoslavian jazz rock band Generacija 5. Her mother comes from Obrenovac, and her younger sister, Tijana, professionally known as Tijara, often collaborates with Sajsi. Interestingly, Rašić did not show interest in music during childhood, unlike her sister, and only started writing lyrics during her university years.
Her career began at a rap festival in Belgrade's Barutana night club in 2002. Initially, Sajsi MC was a collective that existed from 2005 to 2009. The name of their act, Šatrovački, is slang for oral sex. In 2010, she pursued a solo career, releasing her debut album Daleko je Dizni under Multimedia Music. Mainstream attention came in May 2011 with the song "Mama" featuring Damjan Eltech, where she portrayed a fictional "shallow and materialistic" high school girl named Tiffany. Critics at Radio Television of Serbia failed to recognize the satire, negatively commenting on the character.
Sajsi MC has released three solo albums, Daleko je Dizni (2010), Rad, rad i samo bleja (2018), and Kardinalna (2022), plus three EPs: KNVK (2012), Pokvarenica (2014), and IVANARASHIC (2023). Her best-known songs include "Antifa kučke" (2012), "Nadrkano hodanje" (2014), "Došla sam da dam" (2015), "Lokal beogradizam" (2016), and "Redaljka" (2017). She also collaborated with Croatian singer Severina on the duet "Silikoni" in July 2016. She has performed at major regional festivals, including EXIT, Sea Dance, Belgrade Beer Fest, Arsenal Fest, and Guča Trumpet Festival.
Beyond music, Rašić is an ally to the LGBT+ community in Serbia. She was announced as the "godmother" of Belgrade Pride 2022, which hosted that year's EuroPride. In October 2022, she appeared in an UN Women campaign against gender-based violence in Serbia. She graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Belgrade, in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in international relations. In August 2021, she married punk musician Marko Trmčić. She revealed her pregnancy in January 2023 and gave birth to a daughter on March 12.
