Biography

About Rebecca Hazlewood

Edited by the community

Rebecca Hazlewood began her acting career after being scouted to model on the BBC's 'The Clothes Show' while skipping school. That early break led to a path through British television and film, including a role in the Film4 feature 'Dog Eat Dog' alongside David Oyelowo and Ricky Gervais. She gained a cult following in the UK for her portrayal of Arun Parmar in 'Bad Girls', one of the first transsexual characters on a primetime UK series.

Her US recognition grew with her role as Asha in NBC's 'Outsourced', which prompted Variety to list her as a "breakout performer" and praise her as "superb." She later appeared as Kamilah Al-Jamil, the sister and nemesis of Tahani, on 'The Good Place'. Her other credits include 'Lost', 'ER', 'Grey's Anatomy', 'Lost Transmissions', and HBO's 'Room 104'.

Rebecca studied Theatre and English at King Edward VI College in Stourbridge, an institution whose alumni include Robert Plant and J.R.R. Tolkien. She later graduated with high class honours in English Literature from Bretton Hall, where she formed a theatre company and took a play to the Edinburgh Festival. She also trained for six years under Scott Williams, who traces his lineage to Sanford Meisner, and later worked with Philip Seymour Hoffman's coach Tony Greco in LA. She is British, born in Wales, and stands 5'7" with a slim build.
