Biography
About Rachel Goswell
Rachel Goswell, with her signature bleached-blonde crop and calm stage presence, has been a quiet but essential voice in British independent music since the late 1980s. Born on 16 May 1971 in Fareham, England, she first gained attention as the vocalist and guitarist of Slowdive, the shoegaze band she co-founded in 1989. Her ethereal vocals helped define the band's dreamy, effects-heavy sound, which in turn influenced a generation of musicians.
When Slowdive shifted toward a country and folk-rock style, Goswell continued as a member of the new project, Mojave 3, alongside Neil Halstead, Ian McCutcheon, and Simon Rowe. In 2004, she released a solo album, Waves Are Universal, on the storied label 4AD. British by nationality, she has remained active since 1988, and her work continues to be celebrated by fans old and new.
