About Poorna
Poorna, born Shamna Kasim on January 23, 1989, in Kannur, Kerala, India, began her acting career in 2004 with the Malayalam film Manju Poloru Penkutty. She spent her early years playing minor roles in a few unsuccessful films before landing her first major role in the Telugu film Sri Mahalakshmi (2007). Her Kannada film Josh (2009) was a big hit, running for 100 days in theaters. Over the years, she acted in numerous Tamil films, including Kodaikanal (2008), Kandhakottai (2009), Drohi (2010), Aadu Puli (2011), Vellore Maavattam (2011), and Vithagan (2011).
Poorna is best known for her Malayalam films Chattakkari (2012), Aaru Sundarimaarude Katha (2013), and Mili (2015). She gained the label "ghost queen of South films" from The Hindu for her roles as a ghost in Avunu (2012), Avunu 2 (2015), and Raju Gari Gadhi (2015). In 2016, she appeared in the Telugu comedy Jayammu Nischayammu Raa. She shaved her head completely bald for her role in Kodiveeran (2017). Her performance in Savarakathi (2018) earned her critical acclaim. She also appeared in commercially successful films like Adanga Maru (2018), Kaappaan (2019), Lock Up (2020), and Thalaivi (2021). Her Malayalam and Telugu filmography includes Madhura Raja (2019), Maarconi Mathaai (2019), Akhanda (2021), Drushyam 2 (2021), and Dasara (2023). In 2024, she starred in the Tamil horror thriller Devil.
Beyond films, Poorna has judged dance reality shows in Telugu and Malayalam. She is also a YouTuber and has a significant following on Instagram. In her personal life, she married businessman Shanid Asif Ali on June 12, 2022, in Dubai, and they have a son named Hamdan Asif Ali.
