Indian actress and former model Persis Khambatta was born in Mumbai, India, on 2nd October 1948. She began her career in 1968, working as a model and beauty pageant contestant before moving into acting. She is best known for playing Illia in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, a role that made her a recognizable figure in science fiction. With black hair, brown eyes, and a slim 5'7" frame, she had a distinctive look. She was active in the entertainment industry for 30 years, until her death from a heart attack on 18th August 1998, at the age of 49.
