Oprah Winfrey is an American actress, business woman, celebrity, influencer, former reality TV star, TikTok star, and TV host. Born on Friday, 29 January 1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, she is of mixed Eastern Asian, Native American, and Sub-Saharan African descent. With a career spanning 53 years, she began working in radio while still in high school and became a local news co-anchor by age 19. Her emotional and extemporaneous delivery led to a successful daytime talk show career, and she launched her own production company. She is best known for The Oprah Winfrey Show, which ran in national syndication for 25 years, from 1986 to 2011. Dubbed the "Queen of All Media," she was the richest African-American of the 20th century and was once the world's only black billionaire. By 2007, she was often ranked as the most influential woman in the world.
Winfrey was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a single teenage mother and later raised in inner-city Milwaukee. She has stated that she was molested during her childhood and early teenage years and became pregnant at 14; her son was born prematurely and died in infancy. She was then sent to live with her father, Vernon Winfrey, a barber in Nashville, Tennessee. Her real estate portfolio has been called a "tycoon" level investment, estimated at approximately $127 million as of 2022.
