About Nikki Hamblin
English runner Nikki Hamblin was born on 20 May 1988 in England, United Kingdom, and began her athletics career with the Dorchester Athletics Club before relocating to New Zealand in 2006. She obtained New Zealand citizenship in 2009 and has since become a prominent middle-distance runner specializing in the 800 and 1500 metres. In 2010, Hamblin set a New Zealand record in the 1500 metres and claimed silver medals in both the 800 and 1500 metres at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Hamblin's most memorable moment came at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she and American Abbey D'Agostino collided and fell during the 5000m heat. The two athletes helped each other finish the race, an act of sportsmanship that captured worldwide attention. Both were allowed to compete in the final, but D'Agostino had suffered a torn ACL and meniscus and could not continue. Hamblin's injuries were less severe, and she finished last in the final. The two runners received the Rio 2016 Fair Play Award from the International Fair Play Committee, a fitting recognition of their sportsmanship. She has a slim build and natural bust, with brown hair, and continues to be remembered for that moment of Olympic spirit.
